Living In a Glass House PDF Print E-mail
Written by Barbara Roach

Ministry hurts! What? “Yes, ministry hurts” is something someone once said to me and I am quite sure I heard it right. I have run that thought through my mind many times.  Ministry is not always easy, in fact as the wife of a pastor, most of the time we are right in the middle of many struggles that hurt.

But, knowing what God brought me out of to where I am today, I feel very honored that He can use me… “a broken vessel”…alongside my husband, (the pastor), for His purpose.
Being involved in ministry puts you in the proverbial “glass house.”  Those in ministry are held to a high standard, but none of us can please everyone.  Shouldn’t the instruction of Colossians 3:5 be for everyone, clergy and laity alike?  Shouldn’t we all be spiritually minded?

Anticipating 2012 PDF Print E-mail
Written by Cara Capps

The last few days of 2011 were hectic and I often reminded myself of the date or which day it was. So I wasn’t surprised when I realized Saturday was also New Year’s Eve. As I reflected over 2011, I saw a year when chaos seemed normal; there were surprises that left me spinning and ups and downs that took my breath away. Many times in 2011 I experienced what the songwriter meant in these words:

There is peace in the midst of my storm tossed life
Oh there’s an anchor, there’s a rod to cast my faith upon
Jesus rides in my vessel so I’ll fear no alarm
He gives me peace in the midst of my storm.

I purchased a new devotional book for 2012 entitled Jesus Calling. The first words were “Come to Me with a teachable spirit, eager to be changed. A close walk with Me is a life of continual newness. Do not cling to old ways as you step into a new year. Instead seek My Face with an open mind, knowing that your journey with Me involves being transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

I anticipate a great 2012—and if chaos, change, surprises happen then I’ll take them as part of my continued transformation into a Christ-like disciple with joy and peace!

When You Pass Through the Waters PDF Print E-mail
Written by Louann

Isaiah 43

 1 But now, this is what the LORD says—
   he who created you, Jacob,
   he who formed you, Israel:
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
   I have summoned you by name; you are mine.
2 When you pass through the waters,
   I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
   they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
   you will not be burned;
   the flames will not set you ablaze.
3 For I am the LORD your God,
   the Holy One of Israel, your Savior;

I can tell you about sweeping waters.  Our family went to the Wisconsin Dells for a long weekend.  It was a fabulous place.  I love water parks, but because I am so fair-skinned I can’t spend a lot of time at water parks.  But this place has, brace yourselves, indoor water parks.  Really!!  It’s unbelievable.  I had always thought that would be a great idea, but didn’t think it was possible.  Yet here it was.  They were unveiling a new ride, the Vortex.  Now, it really didn’t look so bad.  A large funnel, and they push you and you ride down it.  I was game.
