How this website came to be -
In the mid-1990s, the Church of the Nazarene’s Women’s Ministries General Council was established. As this group of women met to develop ministry strategies for Women’s Ministries, the need of a segment of the ministry to address the unique circumstances of pastors’ wives was often considered. Since many of the members had parsonage-life experiences or were pastors’ wives, there was a consensus that Women’s Ministries must address this need.
In 2005, Cheryl Roland presented the Council with information about a questionnaire developed by a pastor’s wife in Rochester, New York, Donna Alder. As the Council learned more about Donna’s research, we began to seek ways to support and provide opportunity to distribute the questionnaire to pastors’ wives. This discussion led to Donna meeting with the General Council in 2007.
In the fall of 2008, the discussions continued with greater intensity and desire to create an avenue to minister to pastors’ wives. This led to a meeting with Donna Alder, questionnaire developer and pastor’s wife; Cheryl Roland, District Superintendent’s wife on Northeastern Indiana; Gene and Joyce Dement, OBY-GYN doctor and nurse; Jim Pettitt, Family Life Ministries Coordinator; Linda Hardin, Women’s Ministries General Coordinator; and Larry Morris, Adult Ministries International Director, to develop this section of Women’s Ministries.
A note to Pastor’s husbands –
We recognize that husbands also fill the supporting spouse role. As the committee discussed this reality, we choose to begin by focusing on pastors’ wives. Two factors influenced this decision. First, the majority of pastors’ spouses are wives. Secondly, Donna’s research targets pastors’ wives.
We welcome pastors’ husbands to visit this page and to provide insights into the needs and challenges you face. Let us know how we can minister to you and assist as you fulfill your supportive roles. Send your comments and suggestions to us at
. Until then, we welcome you to join the discussions and provide resources on this site.
Prayer support –
Each weekday, Sunday School and Discipleship Ministries International (SDMI) meet for prayer. All requests will be presented to the staff, except those identified as confidential. We’ll pray for you, asking God to work and to extend grace and mercy.
The questions you submit will be answered by a member of the group mentioned above or a pastor’s wife. Based on personal experience and other resources, each question will be given a thoughtful, prayerful reply.
